The following topics ask you to explain important themes, values, beliefs and/or conflicts that have been important to Americans and perhaps to other modern countries as well. In both “The Meeting” and “The Americanizing of Pau Tsu” conflicts over IMMIGRATION AND ASSIMILATION are expressed in the relationship between husband and wives. Explain these conflict and the theme or main idea of these stories. It might be helpful to think about what the main characters are like, what cultural pressures they are feeling, and whose side (if any) you are on.
