As we learned in class, plant seeds are very sturdy. They are dry and do not smell, and they (so far) are not dangerous. Thus, smuggling them is relatively easy. China’s ever-growing population requires more food than they can produce. Apparently, China imports 94% of their corn, and they would like to become less dependent on importing, and grow their own high yield corn varieties. But it seems that some persons have entered the US with the specific goal of stealing corn seeds! This threat has tremendous political implications. Please read this article (paying less attention to details on hybrid corn that we will discuss later in the course) and give your opinion about this apparent theft and spying that may represent a “war” to dominate the world food supply.
