In this project, you will continue to use Stat Crunch to analyze the Global Health Summary Data Set. Your analysis should include complete sentences and demonstrate appropriate use of the vocabulary terms from Chapters 1 – 13. To make your answers standout and easy to grade, please use a different color of text, bold, or highlight your responses. This project is structured so that students can complete all tasks in each section after completing the corresponding weekly module and/or chapter. For example, all tasks in Section 9 (Chapter 9) can be completed once you have finished module 10 in Canvas. Students are encouraged to work on the capstone project throughout the semester rather than waiting until the due date.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. The WHO was established on April 7, 1948, and is headquartered in Geneva Switzerland. Since its creation, the WHO has played a leading role in the eradication of smallpox across the globe. WHO current priorities include:
• communicable diseases, in particular HIV/AIDS, Ebola, malaria, and tuberculosis;
• the mitigation of the effects of non-communicable diseases, sexual and reproductive health, development, and aging;
• nutrition, food security, and healthy eating;
• occupational health;
• substance abuse;
• development of reporting, publishing, and networking for all countries in the U.N.
The WHO is responsible for creating the World Health Report, the World Health Survey, and World Health Day. The current Director-General of the WHO is Tedros Adhanom, who started his five-year term on July 1, 2017.
Open the Global Health Summary Data Set in StatCrunch. Remember: this data set displays a small summary of a much larger data set collected by the World Health Organization in 2017. If you would like to review a brief description of each variable in the data set, please see the Capstone Project Part 1, Section1.
Task 1: Average Annual Income: Countries in the Sample versus the World (8 points)
In 2016, the global average annual income worldwide was estimated to be $10,850 . (This includes all countries of the world, not just the countries in the data table.)
In this task, you construct a 95% confidence interval to estimate the proportion of countries in the world with an average income greater than the global average. Use StatCrunch to sort the column “Average Income” in ascending order by following the steps below. Use the results in StatCrunch to answer the questions. Use complete sentences and correct notation when appropriate.
StatCrunch Directions to Sort a dataset
1. From the Data menu, select Sort.
2. Under Column to sort: Choose All Columns
3. Under Sort Criteria: Select the column you want to sort by and Choose “Ascending” Order.
4. Under Options: Select “Replace current column(s).”
a) Determine the proportion of countries in the data set that have an average income greater than the global average. Use the appropriate symbol for your point estimate. Round your answer to the nearest thousandth.
b) Use StatCrunch to calculate a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of countries in the world with an average income greater than the global average income level. Round your answer to the nearest thousandth.
c) Describe what requirements must be met for this interval to be valid and whether you think this data set meets these requirements.
d) Using a complete sentence, interpret the meaning of the confidence interval using the context of the problem.
